RENATE Training ‘’Advocacy, Communication and the SDGs.’’
26-30 October 2020.
45 RENATE members attended a week-long training event, encompassing the themes ‘Advocacy,’ ‘Communication’ and the Sustainable Development Goals as they pertain to Human Trafficking.
Comprising various pedagogical approaches to optimise the online platform, the tutors Edlira Gjoni (PhD in Communications; Post-graduate studies in Sweden and USA)
and Sara Capaliku ( BA in Law and MA in European Studies) provided an excellent week’s training which left participants eager to put all the learning into action.
Content covered during the week ranged from dimensions of Advocacy such as; Effective approaches to human trafficking awareness-raising; how to go from policy to action (act and impact); the importance of mapping, planning and using ‘Big Data’. The Complete Communications Toolkit was especially helpful, as participants engaged in discussions and activities which helped consolidate the learning during the week. Practical communication tips were well-received, as were the details on how to draft Press Releases and how to communicate effectively through and with multi-media.
The specific module on the SDGs took a look at Human Trafficking through the lens of SDGs 1, 3, 5, 8.7 and 16 and also wove together the work of the preceding days as Sara’s content ranged from Slavery to sustainability with Advocacy as the driving force.
A highlight of the week was input from Mirjam Beike, OLCGS, NGO representative at the Un Strasbourg, who shared insights into the workings of the UN ; what actions are currently under way at the UN to combat Human Trafficking and how RENATE can work collaboratively with other organisations to ensure the realisation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Recordings of the week are available to RENATE members on the members’ area of the RENATE website and all materials shared during the week’s training will be made available on the Member’s area of the RENATE website.
