The Office of the EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator announced that on the 20^th of December, 2016, the U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2331 (2016) on Trafficking in Persons in Conflict Resolutions.

Outgoing UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov and the UN SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Zainab Hawa Bangura, briefed the Council, and there were powerful interventions by two Yezidi victims, including Nadia Murad, winner of the 2016 Sakharov prize. Myria Vassiliadou, the EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator, delivered a statement on behalf of the EU and its Member States. Speakers welcomed the new resolution, which includes significant elements on accountability, financial tracking, sanctions and the integration of trafficking into the future work of the Council.
