On Friday, 20th February, I was warmly welcomed at Global Academy in Tirana by my friend Armelle Gjoni, a senior teacher at the school. Despite the pouring rain at 7:25 am, I arrived full of anticipation to engage with students from Years 12 and 10, taking the first two classes of the day.
During the sessions, I shared the mission of Mary Ward Loreto (MWL), highlighting the impact of localised mission in Albania. We explored three key aspects of our work:

Protection — supporting those who reach out for help.

Empowerment towards freedom — ensuring all in our care can thrive.

Prevention — advocating, raising awareness, conducting research, transforming communities, and promoting service learning in schools.
Given the recent emergence of foreign nationals being trafficked in Albania and the additional abuses tied to racism, I also facilitated a discussion on this new and urgent issue. The students’ responses were lively and thoughtful, demonstrating their engagement and compassion.
I concluded by inviting them to consider joining a youth ambassador group against human trafficking, hoping to nurture ongoing action and awareness.
